The Big Sleep Out event may be over, but its purpose and impact continues. On Thursday 1st October, some of our team headed to Cheltenham Racecourse with their sleeping bags and essential snacks for a night under the stars. They knew it would be an uncomfortable night’s sleep, but it was all in support of Caring for Communities and People (CCP) and its work to raise money and awareness of homelessness across Gloucestershire and the South West.

The mission continues beyond the event. With World Homeless Day taking place on 10th October, there is still an important opportunity to raise awareness and support CCP’s work.

From pledge to the Big Sleep Out

On Wednesday 26th August, our team attended the official launch at Cheltenham Golf Rooms. Businesses and community supporters came together to learn more about the campaign and enjoy an evening of virtual golf. During the event, we made our pledge and officially registered for the Big Sleep Out. We also appointed our very own Steve Budding as team captain.

What our support means

Businesses came together for a night under the stars to show that homelessness is worth losing sleep over. Together, participants have raised an incredible £16,976.77 and counting.

It was a special evening with a brilliant atmosphere at Cheltenham Racecourse, plenty of laughs and a symphony of snoring that was quickly dubbed the “snorchestra”.

As a company, we support charities both locally and nationally. From fundraising and community sports sponsorships to beach cleans and tree planting, we’re proud to play an active role in our local communities and beyond.

More than one night outdoors

The Big Sleep Out was about much more than our team spending one night outdoors. It was also a time for reflection, as they heard real stories about the difference CCP’s support has made to people’s lives. One night outside cannot recreate the reality of sleeping rough, but the experience highlighted how homelessness can affect anyone at any stage of life.

During the evening, we were introduced to Josh, who has directly benefited from the fundraising. He has since started his own business, named after his beloved dog, Frank. Our team are looking forward to visiting Frank’s Organic Coffee on their next trip to Cirencester.

How you can support CCP

CCP needs continued support to do even more. In recognition of World Homeless Day, the charity hopes to purchase two more CHELPods and add a further £20,000 to its Crisis Fund. Reaching these goals would help more people like Josh move towards safer, more fulfilling lives. Every contribution is another step towards a future where no one has to experience homelessness alone.

We would like to thank Ellie Hill, Daniel Chun and the team at Caring for Communities and People for bringing businesses and supporters together for such a meaningful event.

If you are able to support CCP, please donate through our fundraising page. Every contribution will help the charity continue its vital work across Gloucestershire and the South West.
