That’s the spirit behind B Corp Month.
For certified B Corporations, March is a time to share ideas, support local communities, and talk openly about responsible business. Some host events. Others volunteer. Many simply tell their story. At Optimising IT, we tend to do a bit of everything.
This year feels especially important. We’re preparing for our next B Corp re-certification, and along the way we’re hosting several events across the UK that bring together technology leaders, community groups, and people who care about doing business differently.
What Is B Corp Month?
B Corp Month is a global campaign held every March. It brings together businesses certified by B Lab, the organisation behind the B Corp standard.
If you’re new to the idea, a B Corp is a company that meets high standards for:
- Social impact
- Environmental responsibility
- Transparency
- Accountability
Unlike many certifications that focus on a single area, B Corp looks at the whole organisation. Governance, employees, community work, environmental impact, even how you treat your customers.
What Being A B Corp Means To Us
When Optimising IT became a B Corp, it didn’t suddenly change who we were.
It simply made things official.
From the start, we’ve believed that technology companies should do more than deliver systems and security. We should help organisations build something stable, responsible, and long-lasting.
- Are employees supported properly?
- Does the business create real value in its community?
- Does growth come at a cost to people or the planet?
None of these questions have perfect answers. But asking them regularly keeps businesses grounded.
Rising B Corp Standards
B Lab recently introduced updated certification standards, and put simply, expectations are rising.
The changes place stronger focus on areas like:
- Climate responsibility
- Human rights in supply chains
- Environmental impact
- Governance and accountability
For companies going through B Corp re-certification, including us, it means reviewing how we operate and strengthening areas that need improvement.
A certification that never evolves wouldn’t mean much. Responsible business should strive to move forward, not stand still.
A Few B Corp Events We’re Hosting This Month
B Corp Month often turns into a calendar full of activity, we know ours certainly has.
Some events focus on technology, while others focus on community action. The mix reflects what B Corp culture tends to look like in practice. Strategy in the morning – muddy boots in the afternoon!
Here’s what we’ve been working on:
Planting Trees In Dartmoor National Park
Our B Corp activity technically began before March arrived.
In February, our team joined B Local Devon and Moor Trees for a tree-planting day near Two Bridges on Dartmoor.
Volunteers spent the day planting young trees that will eventually help restore woodland in the area. Local conservation teams explained how these projects support biodiversity and long-term climate resilience.
It’s easy to talk about sustainability in business meetings. Planting trees makes the idea feel a lot more real.
Tech For Impact Event
17 March 2026
Exeter Science Park
One of the highlights this year is our event called TFI – Tech for Impact.
A small gathering of technology leaders working across B Corps, charities, housing associations and social enterprises.
The conversations focus on real problems many organisations face today:
- Using technology responsibly
- Managing cyber risk
- Introducing AI without losing trust
- Modernising systems without losing values
We’re also welcoming speakers from across the technology and non-profit sectors, including leaders from Amnesty International, Huntress, Halo Service Solutions and CommonGood.
The goal is simple. Bring smart people together and let them talk honestly about what’s working and what isn’t.
Sometimes the best ideas start in conversations like that.
A Community Park Clean In Cheltenham
24 March 2026
Pittville Park, Cheltenham
Later in the month we’re partnering with Life’s a Beach, a Gloucester charity tackling plastic pollution before it reaches rivers and coastlines.
Together we’re hosting a community clean-up at Pittville Park.
If you’ve been to Pittville Park, you’ll know it’s one of Cheltenham’s best green spaces, which means it deserves looking after properly.
Volunteers joining the clean-up will help remove litter across the park. Equipment will be provided, and we’ll even weigh what we collect.
Events like this are simple. But simple actions often carry the most weight.
Looking Ahead To Our Next B Corp Certification
As we prepare for our next B Corp re-certification, we’re reviewing how we operate across the business. Community impact, environmental responsibility, governance, everything.
Responsible business isn’t a finish line. It’s more like maintaining a garden. You keep tending it.
And every so often, you plant a few more trees.
